The actual build number is 42, it is the version number. If the build number of the preference panel reads less than 11 (included), you should upgrade.

Download the TeXDist Preference pane.

To ensure that no problem occurred, enter in Terminal.app /usr/bin/openssl sha1 TeXDistPrefPane.bz2, you should read b2a718ab50f4e228592cbaa0c0a428db198f25f5.

Now you can double click to extract the contents of the archive. If you are an administrator, move the preference pane to /Library/PreferencePanes. If you are a standard user, move the preference pane to the /Library/PreferencePanes in your home directory. You can also double click the TeXDistPrefPane.prefPane file, it will launch the preference application and will ask you to install the pane for you. However, upgrading with this method sometimes does not work as expected.

You can safely remove the downloaded archives and the temporary files created during the bz2 expansion.
